Part of the reason I’ve been making videos is to educate people that photography is an art form and it’s not as “easy” as it may seem. Photography is more than just pointing your camera at a subject and clicking the shutter.
Photography isn’t about “taking pictures” rather “making pictures”. And sometimes what looks like one image is a composite of several images. In this case around 22 images!
All that being said this tutorial is a bit more advanced than my previous episodes. Even if you have no clue what a clone stamp or healing brush tool, I think you’ll dig seeing the process. Here are the steps…
STEP 1
Find a good vantage point to shoot your photo.
STEP 2 & 3
Decide which lens would you’d like to use and use a tripod
STEP 4
Decide on a good exposure. Be sure to shoot in Manual mode (white balance too).
STEP 5
Compose your image. If you struggle with composition, use the rule of thirds.
STEP 6
Take a sequence of images until you get every section without people.
STEP 7
Use Lightroom to narrow down the images without people. I used color labeling to make things easier. I used green for the lighthouse section and blue for the waves.
STEP 8
Use the filter system to show your selected images and edit just one image.
STEP 9
Copy and paste the edits to the other images.
STEP 10
Export your images to a folder on your computer.
STEP 11
Open Photoshop
STEP 12
– Go to File -> Scripts -> Statistics
– Stack Mode = Median
– Click browse and go to the folder that you exported the images to.
STEP 13
– Be sure to save your work!
– Copy the main layer…
– Then use the clone and healing brushes to clean up your image.
I hope I inspired you guys and if you have any questions – please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to hear from you!
